Working my way through my ER box-set, I find myself crying at the majority of season eight’s episodes as the lovely Mark Green comes closer to meeting his tragic fate. I think it’s even sadder the second time around when you know how it’s going to end.

I’ve seen my other ER favourites in numerous films and TV series. We all know what’s happening with George Clooney, Julianna Margulies is being The Good Wife and Noah Wyle keeps cropping up these Librarian films – I’m not sure he’s made it big, but at least he’s doing stuff. But what happened to Anthony Edwards – ER’s most loved doctor?

When Mark died in 2002 (I really don’t think I’ve ever been so emotional over a TV programme – it was truly heart-wrenching) he was one of the highest paid actors on TV, and rightly so. It’s thought he saved his money so he could spend more time with his young family after leaving the show (he’s just as adorable in real life as he is on the tele) and then revisit his career in a few years time.
Despite his much welcomed return to ER in the final series last year, he now spends more time behind the camera – his latest project The Velvet Hammer, which is still in development, sees him producing a TV series about a Texan, FBI agent. He also appeared in Flipped, which is due for release this summer, as well as Motherhood and Zodiac – films that I haven’t even heard of, let alone seen.
Shortly after leaving ER, he played “Brains” in Thunderbirds – come to think of it, he does have a cute puppet-like quality that made him perfect for this film.
But his film success is yet to top his role in Top Gun (almost 25 years ago now), where he played Goose, Tom Cruise’s sidekick – is he always destined to die???
At least it’s good to know Anthony is still safe and well in the real world.
