Grey’s Anatomy the musical?

Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes has revealed that a musical episode of the medical drama is planned for this season.

Rhimes said the story would focus heavily on Callie Torres, played by Tony Award winner Sara Ramirez, and there’s speculation that Broadway veteran Chandra Wilson (Dr. Miranda Bailey) will belt out a classic, as might other cast members not known for their singing.

Rimes told TV Guide, “You will be very surprised to discover that some people sing quite well. That’s sort of a little gift to the fans, to discover that people who are not necessarily known for singing have pretty great voices.” I bet Patrick Dempsey is a dark horse.

She was also clear that the episode wouldn’t be musical heavy and nobody will be dancing and signing down the hospital wards, which is a shame as I think that would only enhance Grey’s! Instead the plan is for certain members of the cast to take on some of the songs that the show made iconic.

Casting my mind back I can only think of Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars” and The Fray’s “How to Save a Life” but I’m sure there are others considering how important music is to the show. Let me know if you think of any others?
